FREQUENT QUESTIONS

At Stuart Custom Cabinetry, we know that choosing the right cabinetry is a big decision—one that blends design, function, and craftsmanship. Whether you’re planning a modern kitchen in Scottsdale, refreshing a Mesa home, or building a fully custom project anywhere in the greater Phoenix area, questions are a natural part of the process. This FAQ page is here to guide you through everything from materials and finishes to timelines and installation, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

What is the difference between custom cabinets and those from a big-box store?

Unlike "stock" or "semi-custom" cabinets that come in fixed sizes, our custom cabinetry is built to the exact dimensions of your room. This eliminates the need for "fillers" and allows you to tailor every inch of storage to your specific needs and lifestyle.

Can you help me design the layout of my kitchen or bathroom?

Yes. We offer comprehensive design services. During an initial consultation, we discuss your aesthetic vision, storage requirements, and functional needs to create a plan that fits your space perfectly.

Do I need to provide my own measurements?

While rough measurements are helpful for an initial estimate, we perform a professional field measure before production begins. This ensures that every cabinet is built with precision, accounting for any walls that may not be perfectly level or plumb.

Can I see what the finished custom cabinet project will look like before you start building?

Absolutely. Once the design is finalized, we can provide 3D renderings or detailed plans so you can visualize the layout, door styles, and finishes before any wood is cut.

What types of wood and materials do you use?

We offer a wide range of high-quality materials, including hardwoods like Rift White Oak, Maple, Alder, Cherry, and Walnut. For painted finishes, we often use furniture-grade MDF for center panels because it is more resistant to the temperature and humidity changes that can cause solid wood to crack or warp.

Do your custom cabinets come with soft-close hardware?

Yes. High-quality soft-close hinges and drawer slides are a standard feature in our cabinetry. They provide a premium feel and extend the life of your cabinets by preventing slamming.

How are your cabinet boxes constructed?

We prioritize durability by using high-quality construction methods. Our boxes are typically made from 3/4" furniture-grade plywood, 3/4" hard rock maple or solid wood components rather than the thinner materials often found in mass-produced options.

What is the typical lead time for a custom cabinet project?

Timeline varies by project complexity, but most custom cabinetry projects follow a 10 to 14-week cycle from the time the design is approved, the contract is signed to the final installation is started.

How do we get started?

The process begins with an initial consultation where we discuss your ideas and budget. Following that, we move into the design and measurement phase, then manufacturing in our shop, and finally, professional installation.

What is your payment schedule?

We typically require a 50% deposit to begin the design and manufacturing process. The remaining balance is 40% when the cabinets are delivered and the final 10% after installation and walk-through with your project manager.

Do you handle the installation yourself?

Yes, the professional team from Stuart Custom Cabinetry handles the installation to ensure that the custom fit we designed in the shop translates perfectly to your home. (If you prefer to use your own contractor, we can also coordinate with them.)

Is the cabinet hardware (knobs and pulls) included?

Standard hardware options are often available, but many clients choose to purchase their own specialty hardware to match their unique style. Stuart Custom Cabinetry does provide the install of whichever hardware you select.

How do I maintain my custom cabinets?

Cleaning with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap is usually all that’s needed. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excessive moisture, which can damage the high-quality finish over time.

Do you offer a warranty on your custom cabinetry work?

Yes, at Stuart Custom Cabinetry, we stand behind our craftsmanship and provide a warranty on both materials and labor. We will provide you with the specific details of our warranty policy during the quoting process.
